We made an invitation poster that explains the date, time, where it takes place, etc of our PYP exhibition opening ceremony in the morning.
The whole purpose of this invitation poster is to invite others from Grades 1 to 4 up until a different local school to our PYP exhibition from May 25 to 26.
We designed the invitation with our creativity and imagination to create the perfect poster in mind.
We used Canva, a design platform for posters, presentations, banners, etc to create our poster.
We worked together to make the poster pleasing to others and to finish faster to buy time.
To integrate Chinese Language Arts (CLA) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in a Grade 5 lesson focused on learning different types of media and creating a poster in Chinese, as well as writing a persuasive text about media in English.
Begin the lesson by discussing the importance of media in our daily lives. Ask students about their favorite types of media and why they enjoy them. Explain that today's lesson will involve exploring different types of media and creating a poster in Chinese, as well as writing a persuasive text about media in English in EFL
Introduce various types of media, such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio, social media, etc. Present vocabulary related to each type of media, both in Chinese and English. Show visual examples of each type of media to help students understand their purpose and format. Engage students in a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of media.
Divide students into small groups. Provide each group with art supplies, including large poster paper, markers, and colored pencils. Instruct students to choose one type of media and create a poster in Chinese that promotes the benefits of that particular medium. Encourage students to use appropriate Chinese vocabulary and phrases related to the media type they selected. Circulate the classroom, providing support and guidance as needed.
Transition to the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) portion of the lesson. Explain the concept of persuasive writing, where students try to convince others to adopt their point of view. Discuss the structure and elements of a persuasive text (introduction, body paragraphs with supporting arguments, and a conclusion). Provide students with a prompt related to media, such as "Write a persuasive text arguing for or against the influence of social media on young people." Allow students time to brainstorm ideas and outline their persuasive texts. Instruct students to write their persuasive texts in English, using appropriate vocabulary and persuasive techniques.
Give each group an opportunity to present their Chinese posters to the class. After each presentation, encourage classmates to ask questions or share their thoughts about the poster. Ask students to individually read aloud their EFL persuasive texts. Facilitate a class discussion about the persuasive texts, focusing on the strengths of the arguments and persuasive techniques used.
Summarize the key points discussed during the lesson. Highlight the integration of Chinese Language Arts (CLA) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in the activities. Emphasize the importance of effective communication in both languages and the role of media in shaping society.
