We partner with Kekionga Brewery to press our cider. We press at their location, the historic Goeglein Mill at 7328 Maysville Road, on an old-fashioned hydraulic cider press.
The pressing is a family affair, with a few helping hands from a few family friends. But, the pressing is an open spectacle for the public, for anyone interested in seeing how we press and jug our cider, and how the cider was pressed in years long since passed.
Our cider is one of the most popular items we stock while it's in season. So, if you have the opportunity, stop by and visit us for a gallon of your own, and stay awhile to see it pressed fresh!
The pictures follow the process of pressing cider. From arrival at the Kekionga Brewery location all the way through the final product of the press! The process starts by offloading crates of apples into the lift, where they are rinsed before they are dropped into the grinder. In the grinder, the apples are chopped thoroughly, before being loaded onto the press plates, which are lined with cheese cloth, being wrapped and secured by the cheese cloth, and stacked on the base of the hydraulic press. Once all the apples are all chopped, wrapped, and stacked, the press is lowered, and over the course of about 45 minutes to an hour, the apples are pressed of their juice, into the sieve pan. Once it passes through the sieve pan, it is strained once more, and bottled.
