Title: Biodiversity Monitoring and Land-use Mapping at Wechiau Protected Area
Project Description: This project involved comprehensive biodiversity monitoring and land-use mapping within the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary, a critical habitat in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Key activities included mapping the sanctuary area using drone imagery, conducting burnt area analysis, and performing various remote sensing analyses. Read more
Role: Capturing drone images, mapping the area, and performing GIS analysis to support the project’s objectives.
Title: Maize Crop Height And Yield Estimation using UAV and Deep Learning
Research Description: This research focused on estimating maize crop height and yield estimation by integrating UAV technology and deep learning models. Data collection was conducted over two agricultural seasons (rainy and dry), using a DJI Phantom IV drone (version 2+) with Ground Control Points (GCPs) to ensure positional accuracy. Weekly drone mapping was carried out using PIX4D Mapper at altitudes of 25m, 30m, 50m, and 70m. UAV imagery was collected at three key intervals: one week, two weeks, and three weeks after sowing, with manual seedling counts conducted on the ground for validation.
In the analysis, two advanced deep learning models, YOLOv8 and Faster R-CNN along with Read more
Role: Drone Pilot for mapping and processing the images.

Title: Mapping of University of Cape Coast
Synopsis: In response to ongoing encroachment on lands allocated to the University of Cape Coast since 1967 and the expansion of university infrastructure, the Directorate of Planning and Environmental Management (DPEM) initiated a mapping project. This project aimed to assess and document the state of UCC lands for law enforcement and planning purposes. The project consisted of three phases: The project consisted of three phases: mission planning, flight operations, and post-processing of images. Aerial photography has long been recognized as a tool for acquiring spatial information in support of planning and read more
Title: Wildlife Survey in Avu Lagoon using Mavic 3T Thermal Drone.
Project Description: Sitatunga, a unique species of semi-aquatic antelope, is specially adapted to navigate wetland habitats with its hooves and can submerge underwater when threatened. This elusive species was once considered extinct in Ghana until its rediscovery in the Avu Lagoon. A thermal drone survey was conducted in the catchment area to Read more
Role: Drone Pilot and GIS field assistant.
Title: Mangrove Mapping and Restoration Project at Narkwa, Ghana.
Project Description: This project aimed to map and restore mangroves in the Narkwa community, where the local population heavily relies on mangroves for fish smoking and other activities. The Center for Coastal Management at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), in collaboration with the Shellfish Project, conducted a mapping initiative to assess changes in mangrove coverage and identify areas suitable for restoration. Using the Bramor C-Astral UAV, Read more
Role: Setting up the Bramor C-astral fixed-wing UAV, parachute folding, situational awareness analysis, and processing the captured images for detailed mapping and analysis.
Title: Land-use Analysis of the Sakumono RAMSAR site in Ghana.
Project Description: Land-use Cover analysis was conducted at the Sakumuno RAMSAR site, one of Ghana's most exploited RAMSAR sites. Landsat Imagery from USGS was downloaded and the Support Vector Machine Algorithm. An accuracy assessment was performed on the training samples to validate the classification results.
