Mission Statement: Through high-quality instruction, community service, shadowing experiences, and work experience/internships, students will graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college, the workplace, and the world beyond.
NAF Business Academy provides comprehensive business education to help students advance in their careers. We are exposed to the worlds of marketing and accounting in the first year, and we learn about the importance of professional ethics and financial planning for the future in the second. Together, each class' coursework builds the financial literacy of the student.
Accounting
During my time in the NAF Accounting course, I developed significantly in my ability to analyze and understand financial statements and documents, and learned how to create and maintain financial documents. I learned how to create, check, and revise income statements, balance sheets, and other documents.
Also, I completed my Monopoly Culminating Project, in which I kept my own account during my monopoly game, and edited and added to various different financial statements and documents. Because of this course, I feel I have grown significantly in my ability to understand and create financial documents, and I also feel I built understanding in overarching business topics.
Marketing
The NAF Marketing course taught me useful tools for marketing products, obtaining customer feedback, and planning marketing programs. During my time in the course, I worked with classmates to come up with a company from the ground up.
We were tasked with creating an idea for the company along with a name and sales pitch for it. Later, we created surveys to collect customer feedback and made changes to our company accordingly. We also made social media pages and a jingle to further extend the reach of our marketing programs. Finally, we created a presentation to "propose" the company to our class. Through this process, I significantly deepened my understanding of marketing techniques and strategies.
Financial Planning
NAF's Financial Planning course has made a significant contribution to my understanding of financial responsibility and planning. After having taken this course, I feel prepared to manage my own finances and to make responsible financial decisions with my money.
During this class, I worked on a financial plan for my life at 25 years old. I made decisions about what I would invest in, where I would live, and when I would plan to retire. By researching about each of these decisions and being tasked with ultimately making them myself, I became a more responsible, intelligent investor. I am excited to take the skills that I learned in this class to my real finances as a grow older.
Professional Ethics
NAF's Professional Ethics course provided me with a new perspective on the inner workings of business. Previously, I had only been exposed to the finances or marketing of business, but this class showed me a new and nuanced facet of business.
Learning business ethics was enjoyable because me and my classmates could discuss ethical issues freely and creatively. During the course, I worked on a culminating project in which I studied insider trading. By researching and addressing this issue, I built a strong understanding of how to approach ethical issues in business and how to effectively solve the issues.
