What is the PTA?
The Parent Teacher Association is an organisation with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. The Harley Avenue PTA brings together parents, teachers and children to raise funds and strengthen the school community.
Does the school run the PTA?
No they do not. The PTA is an organization for our community, run by our community. The PTA Executive Board helps run and manage the many details of the organization. The officer positions on the board are the only PTA roles that involve elections.
What’s the role of the PTA Executive Board?
The PTA’s executive board runs the organization; it also serves as the parents’ voice and agent for action. A PTA’s board must be inclusive of the entire parent body, and is responsible for encouraging and facilitating parental involvement.
Who can join PTA?
Anyone can! And everyone should! Parents, step parents, teachers, staff, grandparents and community members are all welcome!
What is expected of me if I join the PTA? How much time do I need to dedicate?
There is no expectation on any parent volunteer, any amount of time you can give to the PTA will always be well received. There are a variety of ways you can get involved, from engaging with social media activity, attending PTA Meetings, volunteering at events or coordinating events, or supporting financially. We make it clear that parents can come to our meetings to just listen and learn, or they can take a more active role if they want to, there are no set expectations!
I am a working parent and don't have time to volunteer but I want to be involved, How can I?
There are many way you can still be involved! By attending meetings you can stay up to date with what is going on in the school as well as voting on policies, budget items, and elections of the PTA Executive committee. Donations are also a great way to help the Harley PTA! All contributions goes directly to the Harley PTA!
What school events are PTA involved in?
We have a long list of programs and activities we sponser and/or coordinate!
Spiritwear,Beautification, Book Fair, Children's Authored Book, Community Service, Corporate Contributions, Cultural Arts, Display Case, Family Fun, Fun Friday Snack Bar, Harley Socials Harvest Festival, Health & Safety,Holiday Boutique, Holiday Pies, Kindergarten Orientation, Membership, PARP Reading Week, Parent's Night Out, Plant Sale, Reflections, School Pictures, School Supply, SCRIP Gift Card Fundraiser, 2nd Grade Celebration, Special Event Tickers, Special Person's Dance, Staff Appreciation, Visiting Author, Yearbook, Square Art, Multi-cultural Committee.
How is PTA money spent?
The money raised by PTA funds student services, programs, teacher and campus needsas well as funds school cultural arts, family fun nights, enriching activities, and more. Every dollar spent by the PTA is approved by members of the PTA. We will vote on budget at pur first PTA meeting on September 11th.
How do I know whats going on at the school?
There are a few ways you can stay up to date on whats going on at Harley. Follow us on facebook as well as joining your childs grade facebook group(they are located at the bottom of our home page.) Keep and eye out for Dr. Toscanos weekly emails as well as Harley PTA's weekly blasts. Our website is also a good place to come to for information.
