Internship Site: Networks Connect Healthcare Staffing
Title: Healthcare Recruiter and Scheduler
Networks Connect Healthcare Staffing is an organization that works with healthcare professionals, and healthcare facilities to offer part time jobs for credentialed healthcare professionals. Networks Connect mission statement is "an ultra-responsive, dedicated team of can-do, ready when you need us, healthcare networking specialists committed to providing skilled, dependable and compassionate healthcare professionals to hundreds of hospitals + specialty care facilities across the US."
Primary Responsibilities and Projects:
Daily responsbilites include, calling healthcare professionals that are active in our system to see if they are interested in any available shifts that the partnerned facilities near them have to offer. This includes calling and confirming shifts, as well as sending out emails to see who is interested and available.
As a recruiter, responsbilities include things such as calling potential interested healthcare professionals that have applied for jobs on Indeed, Careerbuilder, or through references. Other responsbilites include, gathering credentials such as TB Tests, Physicals, and Drug/Background checks. The final responsbility in the onboarding process is getting tax forms and the I-9 filled out.
Learning Objectives:
Learning objectives that I set out were to become a better team oriented person. Being able to work with all kinds of people in small or large teams and do an effective job as well. This connected back with the HSM objectives as most healthcare professionals are required and usually need to have great communication and team oriented skills to tackle big projects or ideas in the healthcare industry.
I have effectively worked to achieve these goals by working with my team to get the most information regarding how to be successful, and communicating with the whole team to ensure the required goals are being met for the team and state.
Personal Development:
During my time at Networks Connect, I was able to gain tremendous work experience, but also was able to learn a lot about myself as well. I was able to strengthen my communication skills and teamwork skills. In this time, I was required to work in a team that was centered in Indiana, and I had a specific portion that I was held accountable for. It made me become a stronger team oriented person. I was in charge of confirming shifts for several different facilities, and if those shifts were not confirmed, the other part of the team worked on getting backup shifts filled. This made my teamwork skills more sharp as I was holding up my portion for the team.
In my professional weakenesses, I need to become more strong willed. I found myself in situations doing another person's job which would sometimes put me behind in my own work. This weakness ultimately ends up putting me short in my goals, and becoming more strong willed will help me become more focused as well, which ultimately leads me to reaching my personal and team goals.
Academic Connections:
I was able to connect a lot from my classes to my internship experience. In a lot of my classes, we worked on learning how to become an effective listener and worker. I was able to tie this back to my internship because it required a great amount of listening as there were team leaders who we had to listen and follow up with. In Keely's class we often times worked on how to handle conflict or tough situations, and I was able to take what I learned in that class and apply it effectively as well. There would be times where I would have to work with 2 or 3 healthcare professionals that wanted the same shift and work on how to tell the other's that these have been taken now. Becoming a conflict solver was a great benefit that I took from my classes to my internship experience.
