33 and 35 were primarily south London routes though each ran into the Haringey area – just.
Route 33 ran from West Norwood and route 35 from Forest Hill. Both crossed the Thames on Westminster Bridge, turned right onto Embankment then turned left into the Kingsway tunnel just below Hungerford Bridge. They popped out of the Kingsway tunnel at Holborn station and turned right into Theobalds Road, then Rosebery Avenue and St John Street to The Angel. Route 33 then went along Essex Road, Balls Pond Road, Mildmay Park, Newington Green and Green Lanes to Manor House, while route 35 from the Angel went along Upper Street and Holloway Road to Archway.
In 1951 the two routes were replaced by bus routes 171 and 172, each route following the tram route north of the river, and the other tram route south of it, except they never went through the tunnel. Route 171 was extended from its inception from Manor House to Bruce Grove, see Bus Area Map
