Students (K - University, public and private school, homeschoolers in NJ and beyond), in collaboration with educators and industry partners, are invited to design flags and icons of discovery and innovation inspired by a globally significant scientific site in Holmdel, NJ. This site is home to breakthroughs that laid the foundations for modern communication and scientific advancement - from understanding the origin of the universe to enabling the technologies we use today. Through this project, students will learn about the discoveries made at Bell Labs and Crawford Hill, honor their impact, and explore how innovation shapes the future.

!!! Early Recognition: Submissions received by August 15, 2026 will be considered for an early showcase: selected work will be featured at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Interdisciplinary Applications at Montclair University (October 9-10, 2026). Selected works will be announced by the beginning of September.

Recognition & Opportunities
Recognition & Opportunities
Winners will be selected across grade-level divisions. Winners will be announced via email to participants and their schools/universities, and shared across NJ STEM Pathways Network channels, including social media and an official public announcement. In addition to winners, honorable mentions and selected works will be recognized.

Winners will be announced via email to participants and their schools/universities, and shared across NJ STEM Pathways Network channels, including social media and an official public announcement. In addition to winners, honorable mentions and selected works will be recognized.
Public Display: Selected submissions will be featured in future public Jersey Shore STEM Ecosystem and IEEE displays and community events. As part of the ongoing development of Dr. Robert Woodrow Wilson Park, one or more selected designs will be produced as physical flags and/or installations and displayed on-site. Students will have the opportunity to attend a special tour of the AT&T Science & Technology Innovation Center Museum and engage with engineers in areas such as telecommunications, wireless systems, software engineering, and network infrastructure.
Public Display: Selected submissions will be featured in future public Jersey Shore STEM Ecosystem and IEEE displays and community events. For Early Recognition: Students will be invited to share their work and attend student workshops at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Interdisciplinary Applications (IEEE ISAIA 2026).
We are working with sponsors to provide additional prizes and recognition opportunities, which will be announced as they become available.
