Instructions/Description

General structure and lecturers

Our summer school aims to cover topics that are considered fundamental in the theory of sphere packing. Three experts on the subject have been invited to deliver mini-courses and coordinate the learning activities: Felipe Gonçalves, Philippe Moustrou, and Danylo Radchenko.

Our activities will be oriented towards undergraduate and graduate students, and possibly early post-docs, with a strong preference to PhD students. The projected number of participants will range between 18 and 24.

Application

The number of participants cannot exceed 24 and priority will be given to early PhD students. For this reason we kindly ask you to apply for participation by following the corresponding link that will be announced shortly here

You will be prompted to upload your CV and a letter of motivation, including the name and email address of a contact person, for example PhD advisor or similar. Please include this information in your letter as well. You will also be asked to rank topics 1, 2 and 3 in order of preference.

Registration fee

There will be no registration fee for the participants of the summer school (up to a maximum of 24 participants). However, since we will have a limited number of participants we kind ask you, if interested, to apply for participation by following the link above.

Mini courses

Each mini-course will consists of (4) four 50-minute lectures. They will take place at BCAM during the first two days of the summer school: Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th of June. The next two days (Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd) the participants will work in groups and in collaboration with the lecturers on special topics related to the themes above. The group work will take place at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). During the morning of the final day, Friday 23d of June, the summer school will conclude at BCAM with presentations of the special topics studied by the different groups.

The abstracts of the lectures and the suggested topics for the working groups can be found here.

Student groups

We will form working groups; each group will study one of the suggested subtopics with the help of the corresponding lecturer and give a presentation on the topic during the morning of Friday, June 23. The style of the presentation (for example blackboard, beamer presentation, poster, combination of the above) will be decided at a later stage.

The groups will be formed with the preferred choices of each student in mind, but bear in mind that you might be assigned to any group.

Fellowships

Please note that we have already awarded all the fellowships for participating students. Application for participation is still available without the possibility of a fellowship.

There will be a maximum of 10 fellowships for participating students. These fellowships will cover the accommodation in Bilbao during the summer school and two meals per day. The deadline for applying for a fellowship is the 17th of April 2023. The deadline for applying for participation is the 7th of May 2023.
