Open to all residents who want to preserve and enhance what is best about Hanwell Village Green, London Borough of Ealing, W7
The waters of the River Brent and the natural springs, which gave Hanwell its name, attracted inhabitants as far back as the Domesday Book in 1086. Today Brent Lodge Park and the Grand Union Canal make Hanwell the greenest part of Ealing.
Hanwell boasts the Wharnciffe Viaduct built in 1835-37, by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the outstanding nineteenth-century engineer, and St Mary's Church designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott (architect of St. Pancras), and the daughters of painter Thomas Gainsborough are buried in its grounds.
For a short time Hanwell was home to Charlie Chaplin at the Cuckoo School for the Poor. It was also home to Dr John Connolly who, as superintendent of St. Bernard's Hospital, pioneered human treatment for the mentally ill; Connolly Dell was once part of the grounds of his house.
The area has a degree of protection as Hanwell Village Green Conservation Area and has benefited from excellent work by many organisations and individuals who have worked hard to preserve what is best about Hanwell; its green and wild places, its building and its close community - it is this that our Residents' Association wants to continue.
If you feel that is important to you - please join us!
For more information visit Hanwell Future, Hanwell History and through the Ealing History Facebook page.
Street representatives usually meet every six weeks - our next meeting is on Monday 7 August 2023 at 8pm. Anyone from the Residents' Association is welcome to attend. Please contact us on email if you woud like to attend or check our notice board.

Our objectives are:
To publish a bi-annual newsletter to be distributed to residents by the Street Reps.
To hold regular meetings of the Officers and Street Reps.
To hold meetings open to all residents, at least once a year.
To write letters and make representation to the Council and the other bodies on behalf of the residents.
To appoint appropriate Officers and Street Reps to enable the Residents' Association to function.
To liaise with the local community police officer(s).
To develop and maintain the Residents' Association records.
To do all such lawful things as are deemed necessary for the advancement of the Residents' Association aims.
To have sub-groups to deal with specific issues, the neighbourhood watch scheme being one such sub-group.
1) Keeping Hanwell Safe - We have a close association with the Hobbayne Safer Neighbourhood Team. Join us at owl.co.uk to keep up to date or check the Notice Board located by the entrance to the Brent Valley Gold Club, opposite the Village Green at the junction of Church Road and Cuckoo Lane.
2) Improving our public transportation links - alongside the Hanwell Station Users Group we campaign to improve services at Hanwell Station, including a move to 4 trains per hour and a Sunday service.
3) Preserving our architectural past - we work with other residents associations and campaign groups to ensure that new or changing developments are designed in a way that preserves or enhances our architectural heritage. We are also gearing ourselves up for Ealing Council's public consultation on the future of its conservation area Further information can be found here.
4) Improving the environmental quality of our area - whether it be through the LAGERCAN (Litter Action Group Ealing Residents), HACAN (a voice for those affected by aircraft noise from Heathrow) or through recent issues with railway-related vibrations emanating from the viaduct, we use our collective voice to make Hanwell a great environment to live in.
5) Protecting the wildlife in our area - we are fortunate to live next door to one of Ealing's lungs - a vast area of wild and managed parkland. Warren Farm is under threat, while local conservation groups strive to improve our understanding and the steps we need to take to protect our wildlife and their habitats. On our own doorstep, we have the Rose Garden project which is aiming to improve the garden design while increasing pride in our parks and building community spirit.
