Here is an overview of the main skills that I teach all my students. Keep in mind there are many other skills that students will become proficient in, but these are the ones that I view to be the most general and overall useful skills to practice when learning to play the piano. I expect students to practice these skills at home throughout the week. Not only will practicing regularly help students to become more proficient on the piano, but it will also teach them to be consistent, work hard, and persevere through challenges.

Beginner Level:

• Finger numbers

• 5 finger scales

• Notes on the piano

• Quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes

• Rhythm and timing

Intermediate Level:

• Full scales

• Arpeggios

• Chord progressions

• Finger patterns

• Notes on a grand staff

Advanced Level:

• Multi-octave scales

• Multi-octave arpeggios

• Key signatures

• Sight reading sheet music

• Accompaniment
