I can vividly remember one specific early morning when I was a little girl. I recall looking out the window to see the bright lights glowing in the working facility, the building in which our livestock are vaccinated, tagged, and so on. I pulled on my pink rain boots and hurried out the door to see what was happening. As I peered into the building, I saw my parents working cattle without me. I remember being quite unhappy that they did not wake me up, and recollect staying out in the working facility the rest of the morning in my pajamas and pink rain boots to “help” them. This is just one of the many wonderful memories I gained growing up on the farm.
Throughout my life, my family has been very important to me. My parents are Steve and Jessie Macke, and I have two younger siblings. My brother, Korbin, is two years younger than me and my sister, Jade, is five years younger. My family has always been really close, and we love to work together to complete tasks on our family farm. I am grateful that I have such a wonderful family that is always there for me. My life would not be the same without them in my life.
Along with my family life, I believe that I was a hard-working, committed student in high school. Throughout my years in high school I obtained a 4.0 GPA every semester and was ranked one out of 41 students. In addition to my grades, I participated in many extracurricular activities including sports and clubs. I participated in volleyball, basketball, and track and field all four years of high school. I have held positions in SADD as President and National Honor Society as treasurer, and been a member of FCCLA, FFA, and C.L.A.S.S. Leadership. I have also been Class President all four years of high school. After I complete high school, I plan to attend Southeast Community College to continue my academic and athletic career. I chose this college because it has an amazing agricultural program, and I love the campus. In high school I studied hard and was dedicated to my grades, which helped me to achieve my academic goals.
At Southeast Community College, I plan to follow a career path in Agribusiness. After completing two years here, I plan to move on to a four-year college to finish out my bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness with a minor in Feed Science. With this degree, I hope to get a job as a Livestock Nutritionist. To achieve this goal I will have to study hard, but I know I can do it because I love working with animals. Ever since I was a little kid I loved to be around cattle and outside working with my dad, so this has led me to this career. I also discovered that in Feed Science I will take courses like biology, chemistry, animal nutrition, and mathematics-- all classes that I enjoy. These classes and clubs that I have been involved with in high school have helped me to develop better communication and problem-solving skills that will be vital in my chosen career.
Along with my education and career goals, I love spending time working with my dad on the farm. The challenges that I face while completing tasks has helped me build great problem-solving skills along with a great work ethic. Working with him has helped us gain a very close relationship, but it also helps me to relieve stress from my daily life. I am very thankful for my family and the place that has shaped me into the person I am today.
