Timothy Johnson-McCoy is a Detroit-born multidisciplinary artist, cultural leader, and wellness innovator whose work bridges performance, education, and community healing. With more than two decades of experience, he has built a career grounded in artistic excellence, social impact, and the belief that creative expression can strengthen individuals, transform communities, and expand collective possibility.
Timothy’s artistic path began early. At 13, he was dancing professionally with the Detroit Pistons(N.B.A.) and Detroit Shock(W.N.B.A.), and by 17 he had joined The Walt Disney World Entertainment Company as a dancer and performer. Since then, his career has taken him to more than 80 countries, where he has collaborated with nonprofits, corporations, community centers, elder communities, theaters, and hospitals to create experiences that support mental, physical, emotional, and cultural well-being.
Across his career, Timothy has served as a performer, company manager, production manager, creative director, artistic director, educational director, and founder of Hands2Heal TY, LLC. In each role, he has centered inclusive practice, intergenerational connection, and culturally responsive engagement. His work integrates movement, mindfulness, somatic education, trauma-informed care, and the performing arts to create programs that are both artistically strong and socially meaningful.
Timothy earned a Bachelor of Science in Dance with a minor in Psychology from Coppin State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude and top of his discipline. He is also a Reiki Master-Teacher, Master Make-Up Artist, and graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, bringing a rare combination of artistic skill, embodied knowledge, and human-centered leadership to his practice.
At the heart of Timothy’s work is a commitment to becoming the person he once needed and using all of his gifts in service of others. His practice reflects a deep dedication to community, healing, and the power of the arts to foster connection, dignity, and lasting impact.
