Closed captions on YouTube allows for people to read videos that they are watching, sometimes enabled by the “CC” button on the bottom right corner of the screen.
How do they get created? Closed captions can be easily copied from a script, as in my scripted videos. However, there are videos on my channels where there is no script to copy from, and all of the speech-related things are done on site and in the moment. I try to make sure that my videos have closed captions, but on long videos without a script, that is easier said than done. Sure, YouTube can create it’s own closed captions, but these computer-generated closed captions are not always reliable. They can be fixed by manually changing the text, which is easier on short videos than long videos. On these longer videos, you need to listen to the whole video carefully, add closed captions where there is none, and edit the closed captions where it is misspelled. This process takes a while, and I do not have the time to finish this process for some videos, which is where you come in. I have opened my videos with unfinished closed captioning for editing by community contributions, and I am sure that one of you who is watching this may have more time to add closed captions than I do. There is no price on it but time, and if you have plenty, then it would be worth it! If you want to help Hand-in-Shot Productions with closed captions, go to the links at the bottom of my page to edit the closed captions of the videos of one of my channels. Make sure you type the closed captions correctly, but if I have the time (and if it isn’t too much work), I might make some edits myself! If you know your Spanish, make some Spanish closed captions as well as the English ones. After all, some of my SleepTrain456 viewers view my closed captioning in Spanish. Just make sure you actually know Spanish and, preferably, are not using Google Translate: after all, machine translations are a bit tricky. Either way, with some effort, we could add closed captions to any video of mine without closed captions! Until then, see you next time!
