These flashcards are great for teaching Halloween vocabulary. They can be taught at two levels, basic and intermediate. In the basic game, students ask simple questions like, "Do you have a witch?", "Do you have a ghost?", and "Do you have a skeleton?". In the intermediate game, students ask questions like, "Do you have a witch flying on a broomstick?", "Do you have a ghost at a haunted house?", and "Do you have a skeleton dancing in a cemetery?".

The vocabulary taught is as follows:

A ghost at a haunted house.

A skeleton dancing in a cemetery.

A witch flying on a broomstick.

Spiders in a cobweb.

A mummy in a tomb.

Goblins around a hollow tree.

A headless horseman with a jack-o'-lantern.

An alien in a cornfield.

A scarecrow in a pumpkin patch.

A boy dressed as a pirate.

A girl dressed as a witch.

A clown carving a pumpkin.

Some kids trick-or-treating.

A black cat on the roof.

A bat on a grave.

A vampire in a coffin.

Print two copies of the cards and paste on posterboard to make a deck of cards to play Go Fish, review the vocabulary, play Memory, or play Old Maid.

Go Fish:

Students each get 2 or 3 cards dealt to them. Going clockwise students try to match up their cards by asking other students if they have a matching card. Interactions are as follows:

Student A: Do you have a vampire in a coffin?

Student B: Yes, I do. (Student B gives card to student A and student A gets a point).

At the third activity station was a Halloween flashcards game, where the children waiting their turn for pumpkin coloring or face painting spent their time with me. I made laminated Halloween-themed flashcards and used them to encourage the children to learn some new words. This was the loudest activity, as the children would shout out the names of the objects on the flashcards in English. Once they were all familiar with the words, we played a fun game that involved mixing and matching the cards.
