This is a self-reflection assignment that was done in order for me to express my values and qualities that I think are most important. Overall, this statement was done to express how I see myself as an honors student.
I am focused and dedicated to my coursework and goals. I am able to balance building friendships and having fun with the time I spend studying and working on my assignments. I am able to use my love for education to stay motivated and focus on my career end goal. I am passionate about what I am learning and able to take my knowledge and expand it outside the classroom to share it with others. I am able to volunteer at experiences that interest me and allow me to help others.
This honors assignment allowed me to reflect on who I really am as an honors student. It was hard for me to depict who I am and what is most important to me into a few sentences. However, after writing this statement I have been able to learn who I currently believe I am and how it will connect to who I later want to become. It enabled me to look deep within myself to discover who I really am.
This statement is an expansion of the "I am" statement. This assignment reflects on who I am now as an honors student, and it focuses on how I can apply honors to my future. It shows my goals and areas I need growth as an honors student.
Currently, I work very hard on my coursework and I have been putting a lot of effort into my studies. I have built steady friendships and found support as I am going through my schooling. I have been able to use my love for community service to enable me to find opportunities to become involved in volunteer work. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish so far throughout my college experience, but this is just a start. Who do I want to become?
I want to become someone who is able to stay true to their values. Often, it is hard to stay true to who you are, with so many different ideas and images seen in the world and on social media. I want to become someone who is strong in my faith, someone who is loyal to my friends, and someone who is honest when difficulties arise. These are all values I want to have in my future. I want to be able to be someone that can handle challenges when they arise and follow through with my commitments.
I want to be able to set goals and follow through. For me this is both hard and easy. I have goals for my academics and educational future, but I find it difficult to set goals for my personal life. For my academics, I want to maintain a 3.5 GPA. For my education, I want to attend dental school, and I want to become a pediatric dentist. I also want to become someone who puts myself “out there.” To do this, I want to become someone who applies for more leadership positions and more mentorship positions.
I want to become someone who is able to grow. I have already seen myself start to grow into a more social and outgoing person since I have come to college. However, I want to continue to grow into a person that people can look up to and feel comfortable to approach. I want to become someone that is growing as an honors student. The transfer from high school to college was easier than I thought, but I know classes will continue to get harder. I want to grow into a person that is comfortable with asking for help, and someone who is able to grow from receiving help and guidance.
For me, my future involves following my values, setting goals, and growth. Going forward, I will focus on following who I truly am, setting goals that will push me in my personal life and academic setting, and growing into a leader. With these aspects, I think I will be able to become my best self.
This honors assignment allowed me to look into how I can connect who I am currently and apply it to my future goals and values. I was able to reflect on who I am as an honors student and set goals for my future. I like how this assignment was able to tie my past and present and apply it to my future plans. I was able to reflect on my values, goals, and areas of growth and explain how all of these ideas contribute to who I want to become.
The journey map assignment invovles my steps throughout my college experience. It starts with highschool, and the order of steps I took to declare a major, apply to school, recieve a scholarship, and then my freshman year of college. The assignment also includes future plans that I plan to pursue.
This honors assignment allowed me to explore how I have planned and gotten to the point I am at today. It also allows me to develop new plans for my future. It was beneficial to me to see how aspects of my high school schedule allowed me to declare a major and career path. I was able to combine some of my other assignments into a smaller, visual piece that emphasizes what I have done, what I am doing, and what I plan to do in the future.
This assignment reflects my skills and options that I can pursue throughout my college years. It shows how there is room to build skills from these experiences and utilize the skills and goals I already have. It also includes future plans and how I can apply the experiences later on.
When researching different engaged learning experiences, I could potentially do in the future, I found that the most important thing to me was continually learning about what I am taking part in. This saying, three experiences I would like to take part in while at IUPUI are study abroad, LHSI, and becoming an honors peer mentor.
I would love to travel to learn about different cultures and gain better communication skills with people of diverse backgrounds. Studying abroad will also allow me to self-reflect on the way I live my life and where I can improve to become my best self. Being involved in studying abroad will allow me to gain adaptability skills, a greater sense of empathy, enhance my problem-solving skills, a greater independence, and so much more. With each of these skills, I can apply them to a career setting as well as my courses throughout the rest of my school years. I plan to take part in this experience over summer after my sophomore year. I will be able to take these experiences and learn from them in order to become prepared for anything that comes my way. It will also give me a greater understanding about community and cultural importance.
By involving myself with LHSI, I would be able to get real internship experience in a field that I could possibly continue doing for the rest of my life. This research opportunity would prepare me for many of the classes I will have to take throughout school, so it would be nice to have some additional knowledge on the topics. I am hoping to take part in this experience throughout my sophomore year. After being in this program, I am hoping to find my passion in life, whether it is research or patient care. It will allow me to develop greater communication and problem-solving skills.
Another thing I want to do is become an honors peer mentor. I plan to do this during my junior and senior year. This program will allow me to develop some leadership skills and reflect on my honors experience. As I go into my next few years of school, I will complete honors contracts and complete experiences as an honors student. Personally, I did not have an honors mentor coming into school, and it is something I wish I would have taken advantage of. I would like to be someone that new students can look up to and ask for advice. I will be able to develop good communication and leadership experiences in an honors setting.
Overall, I think these three experiences will allow me to develop some really important skills and grow as a part of the honors college. They will allow me to reach my goals both personally and academically.
The honors assignment gave me the opportunity to look into some experiences IUPUI has to offer to further my learning and leadership. It showed me the possibilities of what I could do with the rest of my time at IUPUI and what skills I would gain from taking part. It was challenging to narrow it down to only three things that I would consider doing, but I feel that these three opportunities would allow me to develop vital skills that I need for my future.
