The Hackert Lake Improvement Board (LIB) was established in 2004 through the efforts of Hackert Lake Association. Pursuant to Michigan state law, the necessary number of signatures was obtained on a petition and presented to Amber Township. After review, the township passed a resolution to establish the LIB.
The LIB has the authority to identify a lake problem, create a management plan, award contracts, establish a special assessment district (SAD), and approve taxes to pay for implementation of the plan. As of November 2015 the LIB has implemented two multi-year plans, both primarily for the control of Eurasian water milfoil.
By law, the board has five members:
1: A Mason County Commissioner
2: The county Drain Commissioner, or his/her representative
3 & 4: Two appointments from/by Amber Twp Board
5: One representative from Hackert Lake Association
