“Post- in Literature”
“A certain fragility has been discovered in the very bedrock of existence” - Michel Foucault
Post- is indefinable on its own. The importance of it lies in its fragile instability. It resists and rejects any closure or definite lines. Instead, it creates a fruitful ground for other ideologies, movements and genres to bloom. Apart from the idea of anaftermath, it demands a critical outlook for the accepted but not explained or understood concepts in the former paradigm. Though it stands on/against an established tradition, it does not stray away from its roots. Post- does not necessarily mean that the earlier movement or the earlier school of thinking is over. Rather, it establishes itself as the continuation of thinking in another mode. Post-, by definition, implies a paradox. It suggests the paradigm moved beyond the boundaries of the former model, yet it is still defined in relation to the previous paradigm. This Janus-faced nature of Post- allows its adherents to evaluate literary works in relation to the past and the contemporary paradigms together.
The Department of English Language and Literature, Hacettepe University proudly presents its 2nd Annual Undergraduate Conference in English Studies to create an opportunity for undergraduate students to explore, discuss, and develop their interpretations of “Post- in Literature”. The aim of the Undergraduate Conference in English Studies organised by the students of the Department of English Language and Literature for the undergraduate students in Turkey is to create an environment for prospective scholars of the field to develop fruitful networks, share their perspectives, and display their talents.
Hence, the 2nd Annual Undergraduate Conference in English Studies opens the floor to papers that explore “Post- in Literature” amongst undergraduate students of English Language and Literature, American Culture and Literature, and up to 5 participants from all disciplines.
