"All texts are intertextual, for no text exists in isolation” - Julia Kristeva
Intertextuality, at its core, is one of the key elements that brings together various eras and
traditions of literatures throughout millennia. It is an established fact that works of literature,
and literary studies have always been referential. Thus, it is often possible to observe the binding
aspect of intertextuality within various works of art. With the advent of new forms of expression
and media in the contemporary world, intertextuality becomes a bridge that entangles the
stories, themes, ideas, beliefs and the medias that are expressed across the wide span of history.
Intertextuality allows creators in all eras to communicate with the minds of their predecessors
while experimenting with and expressing new and innovative content and ideas. Consequently,
intertextuality lies at the heart of the process of creation, for there is nothing that has not been
said under the sun.
The Department of English Language and Literature in Hacettepe University proudly organises
its 1st Undergraduate Conference in English Studies to create an opportunity for undergraduate
students to explore, discuss and develop their interpretations on the subject of “Intertextuality.”
The goal of the Undergraduate Conference in English Studies is to establish a tradition in
Hacettepe University for undergraduate students that will harbour an environment for
