ABOUT ME
I am Habib Seid Ahmed is a senior lecturer, researcher, and policy-oriented sociologist with over 14 years of experience in higher education, applied research, and development practice in Ethiopia.
I am currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Gondar and as a Strategy and Current Development Study Officer at the University’s Center for Policy and Strategy Studies. My work bridges academic scholarship, policy analysis, and community engagement, with a strong focus on evidence-based development and social transformation.
I holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Gondar, complemented by a Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Integrated Community Development and Child Welfare jointly awarded by the University of Illinois at Chicago and Addis Ababa University. I am also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Diploma in Business Management from the University of Gondar, providing me with a solid interdisciplinary foundation in social analysis and management.
My academic career includes extensive teaching, research supervision, curriculum development, and academic leadership roles at the University of Gondar. I have coordinated summer and extension programs, contributed to strategic planning and promotion committees, and led community service initiatives. Beyond academia, I served as Project Coordinator and Project Officer for nationally and internationally funded development programs, particularly in HIV/AIDS prevention, livelihoods, gender mainstreaming, and community capacity building, working with organizations such as CVM, OSSA, and UNWFP-supported projects.
My core competencies include social and policy research, qualitative and quantitative methods, project management, monitoring and evaluation, grant and proposal development, training and facilitation, stakeholder mapping, and scenario planning. My thematic expertise spans economic sociology, urban livelihoods, peace and conflict, mental health and psychosocial issues, social institutions, and development policy. I am proficient in SPSS, R and STATA, fluent in English, and has a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, policy-relevant research, and national-level engagement.
As an educator in the digital age, I have witnessed how innovative teaching tools can significantly enhance student engagement and learning. I also recognize that meaningful integration of technology requires intentional learning design aligned with clear educational goals. Through this graduate program, I seek to strengthen my expertise in learning design and educational technologies to develop effective, student-centered curricula and contribute more broadly to academic practice.
I am particularly drawn to Arizona State University’s Graduate Certificate in Learning Design and Technology for its strong focus on curriculum design, instructional technology, and sound pedagogical principles. The program aligns with my interest in using educational technologies to support diverse learners, an area shaped by my experience working with students from varied academic backgrounds. These competencies will enhance my teaching and prepare me to support institutional approaches to teaching and learning.
Beyond professional development, I aim to make a wider impact as an educational consultant, supporting institutions in designing inclusive, adaptive, and engaging learning environments. This program represents a critical step toward that goal, equipping me with the theoretical foundation, practical skills, and professional network needed to lead meaningful change in education.
