In 2019, the British Parliament became the first national government in the world to officially declare a climate emergency.
[245] As at September 2019, nine countries including the United Kingdom, France and Argentina have made national declarations of a climate emergency. Climate emergency declarations have been made in 983 separate jurisdictions and local governments in 18 countries covering 212 million citizens.
