"A Gun for Dinosaur" is a classic time travel science fiction story[1][2][3] by American writer L. Sprague de Camp[4][5] as part of his Rivers of Time series.[5][6] It tells the story of four men who travel into the past to hunt dinosaurs.

The story takes the form of a first-person narrative by the protagonist, time-traveling hunter Reginald Rivers, told to Mr. Seligman, a prospective client of his time safari business. Seligman's contributions to the conversation are omitted and must be inferred from those of Rivers. Rivers informs the client that he is not big enough to hunt the dinosaurs of the Cretaceous period and illustrates his point with an extended anecdote from a previous expedition, which forms the main portion of the tale.

James proves unmanageable by shooting at every creature in sight and spoiling Holtzinger's shots. Ultimately James's foolishness gets him in real trouble, when he inadvertently empties his rifle over a slumbering Tyrannosaur, which consequently wakes and goes for him and Aiyar. James panics and tries to flee but runs into Aiyar and knocks them both down. Holtzinger tries to save them by shooting the dinosaur, but his gun is not powerful enough to kill it, and his act only attracts it toward the shooter. Despite the best efforts of Rivers and Aiyar to save Holtzinger, the Tyrannosaur snaps him up and makes off with his body. After a fruitless track for the Tyrannosaur so that Holtzinger's body could be recovered, a furious quarrel with James ensues. He and the guides each blame the other for their companion's death, which leads to a fist fight between James and Rivers in which James is defeated. James tries to shoot Rivers but is knocked out by Aiyar. James then swears revenge.

Sam Moskowitz, who felt de Camp's "plots less incisive" during this period, cited this story as an "outstanding exception" discussing "with an air of quiet authority the problem of what type of gun and what methodology were best suited to shooting dinosaurs."[14]

Harry Turtledove deems the piece a "classic, ... at the same time a fine character study, a meditation on time-travel paradoxes (here treated as something the continuum seeks to avoid rather than a likely result of voyaging into the past), and a splendid re-creation of a vanished world. De Camp makes the reader feel the heat and humidity of the world to which Reginald Rivers and his band of hunters are transported--and feel the bites from insects with mouthparts evolved to pierce dinosaur hide. He does a masterful job of discussing the difficulties inherent in hunting extinct behemoths with weapons small enough for one man to handle. When troubles arise, they do so as a natural consequence of the characters' personalities, and are more moving and convincing because of that." He feels the story "has also aged very well, despite the vast increase in paleontological knowledge in the past half-century."[3]

Here I come, drop your jaws to the floor

I'm riding on my mighty laser-shooting dinosaur

Here we come, can you hear him roar?

Woah-oh, woah-oh

Prepare for epic fight and his laser missiles

The sound is boom, boom, boom for every time a goblin dies

Let's sing now, here we go, hear my battle cries

Woah-oh, woah-oh, oh-oh-oh

The woman was taken to a hospital for an undisclosed medical condition and then transferred to the Moffat County jail. The woman's condition wasn't directly related to the shooting, Sheriff KC Hume told the Craig Daily Press.

Damon, 46, died at the scene. Hand, who is also identified in some court records as Georgie Damon, was taken to a Colorado hospital for a medical issue that was not related to the shooting, according to sources familiar with the incident.

Alex Stone's school year is off to a rough start. The South Carolina teen was arrested on his second day of school on Aug. 16 after writing in an assignment about shooting his neighbour's pet dinosaur with a gun he bought to "take care of business."

Stone told a local television news station in Summerville that students had been instructed to write a few sentences about themselves as though it were a Facebook status update. Stone said he wrote a fictional story about killing his neighbour's pet dinosaur and that he doesn't think he did anything wrong.

"I could understand if they made him rewrite it because he did have 'gun' in it. But a pet dinosaur?" said Gray."I mean first of all, we don't have dinosaurs anymore. Second of all, he's not even old enough to buy a gun.

The song "Laser-Shooting Dinosaur" by Angus McSix appears to be a playful and fantastical anthem about a larger-than-life creature. The lyrics evoke imagery of a powerful and technologically advanced dinosaur that shoots lasers and engages in epic battles.

The song portrays the dinosaur as a formidable force, derived from ancient times and developed in Tokyo. It is described as a fusion of beast and war-machine, designed to neutralize any enemy that comes its way. Equipped with a vorpal blaster gun, night scope zoom device, and other advanced features, the dinosaur is depicted as a symbol of strength and destruction.

The chorus emphasizes the entrance and presence of this mighty dinosaur, calling for attention and dropping jaws. It invites the listener to imagine the roaring sounds and the anticipation of a grand fight. The mention of goblins dying and the boom of laser missiles adds to the epic narrative and intensity of the battles.

In the second verse, the song highlights that the dinosaur is made of moon metal and assembled by Samurai, further emphasizing its power and uniqueness. The mention of its battery charging with thunderstorms and possessing advanced artificial intelligence suggests a connection to nature and intelligence, enhancing its abilities to vanquish enemies.

The shooting happened 8 miles east of Dinosaur, Colorado, just before 2:30 p.m., after the officers decided to investigate a "suspicious vehicle" parked on a hillside above U.S. 40, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the 14th Judicial District's critical incident team.

The woman, identified as Georgie Louise Hand, was taken into custody. She was treated at a Colorado hospital for a medical issue not related to the shooting, according to sources with knowledge of the incident.

Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume identified the deputy Tuesday as Bhrent Shock, a veteran of the sheriff's office with more than a decade of law enforcement experience. Shock has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice following any officer-involved shooting, Hume said. e24fc04721
