You can read the catalogued finds on the Pond Biodiversity page.
We are working on an an online form that will alow people to submit their finds so watch this space!
David Bollenberg, South Ribble Borough Councillor for the ward of Bamber Bridge West 2024 to 2027, had the idea for a group of volunteers to help the council look after the pond team in October 2024 after talking to several of the residents about the unkempt state of the pond at the time.
He arranged a meeting between South Ribble Borough Councillor officers and local residents to be held at the pond on Thursday 17th April 2025. The meeting allowed the residents to express their concerns over the unattractive state of the pond and how the overgrown surroundings did not make them feel safe. The officers heard these concerns and agreed to some changes in how they managed the area. The officers also took the opportunity to go pond dipping with the residents to show them just how much wildlife was thriving in the pond. It was agreed that there would be another meeting in October to see how the ecosystem was progressing.
In July 2025, the Guardians of Brownedge Pond group was launched. Its aim being to allow volunteers from the local community to help the council maintain the site by reporting issues and undertaking group tidying events to keep the area between Brownedge Pond and the Chicken Path welcoming, accessible, and safe.
In August 2025, the Guardians of Brownedge Pond completed the first wildlife survey of the pond and set up the Pond Biodiversity register.
Please note that this group is part of the Bamber Bridge in Bloom community group.
17th April 2025: The first residents and South Ribble Borough Council meeting to discuss the pond, look at the life in the pond, and plan for improvements to the area.
In July 2025: Balsam pulling sessions.
17th August 2025: First wildlife survey of the pond.
7th October 2025: South Ribble Borough Council are clearing the ponds and area based on residents requests from the April 2025 meeting. This will set the pond up for 2026 when the Guardians will undertake more improvements, more balsam pulls, and more wildlife surveys! Why not join us and become a Guardian of Brownedge Pond?
