The mission of the Dr. Gregory E. Thornton Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2022, is to help provide graduating High School Students who attend Dr. Thornton's Alma Mater, Overbrook High School(Class of 1972 Philadelphia, PA), with financial assistance to support their pursuit of postsecondary education opportunities to fulfill their academic goals.

To those who share its vision, the Foundation offers opportunities to participate in its realization through financial and in-kind support and volunteerism. The Foundation will contribute to enlightened public policy through advocacy for its vision of postsecondary educational opportunity without financial barriers. This Foundation sees postsecondary education as a catalyst, an agent of change for individuals, families, and communities here in Philadelphia Proper. 

We envision a Foundation that recognizes educational attainment's importance and assures positive, productive outcomes are accessible. The doors of the Dr. Gregory E. Thornton Scholarship Foundation will be open to those with the dreams and aspirations of continuing their education.
