Many high school students feel stressed due to academic pressure. As the years pass, competition to get into a desirable and Ivy League college increases. Students take part in several extracurricular activities, maintain their grades, and basically do everything they can to get into a good college. However, students forget that they also need to take care of themselves. Numerous high schoolers do not practice stress management strategies that can help cope with stress.
Through workshops and a stress management day at Elkins high school, my project aimed to create awareness of the immense stress that high schoolers face and how to reduce it.
For this project, I conducted four stress management workshops. In each workshop, we did a different therapeutic activity like bracelet-making, slime-making, and painting.
This gave high schoolers a chance to take a break from school and stress- relieve.
Allows people to express their emotions through art while decreasing stress.
It evokes creativity, allowing the mind slow down thoughts.
Fosters mindfulness and self-awareness (gives you time to reflect)
Allows for social connection-spending time with friends or family while doing art.
The repetitive motion of putting beads into string is naturally relaxing and encourages focus.
Improves mood and eases anxiety and depression.
Helps escape the pressure of daily life while finding relaxation in the rhythm of the craft.
Creates a sense of accomplishment, boosting self-esteem and confidence.
Helps calm your nerves and diverts your attention to something more fun.
Kneading slime feels good and squishy in our hands.
Boosts feelings of relaxation and calmness.
Helps release tense muscles.
During the stress management day, high schoolers participated in a variety of stress management activities like slime-customizing, bracelet-making, board/card games, and painting.
They also engaged in a presentation educating them about stress.
