2020 has been a [insert own expletive here] year, but a good optimist looks to take the positives out of every situation. A surprising effect of lockdowns/social distancing/virus suppression methods has been an explosion in outdoor fitness. People have been getting out of their houses to stretch their legs (and minds) or moving from their gym routines into the forests, parks and mountains.
We are incredibly fortunate to announce that despite all the uncertainty, the annual GSB 3Peaks challenge will be taking place on the usual slot of the Alumni reunion weekend. While the rest of the program has for obvious campus restrictions needed to go “virtual”, the 3Peaks is able to offer the best of both worlds. We will be holding a physicial challenge, going from the UCT vicinity up Devil’s Peak, Maclear’s Beacon and ending on Lion’s Head. BUT possibly more exciting for some is the addition of a first ever virtual 3Peaks challenge.
This is still a work in progress as we explore the options to keep it as simple and inclusive as possible, and the intention is to have one, two and three peak categories for those with varying degrees of fitness/time.
The date for both events is Sunday 25 October 2020, and all details will be on our home of the 3peaks which you are currently reading!
