Conditions of CPD
What kind of activities can foster CPD?

In the study week in Barcelona, we had the chance to observe multilingual Spanish as a foreign language classes for adults between 18 and 25 years in the language school Education First. We used the Video Enhanced Observation (VEO) app as a complementary observation tool.
The aims of sitting in on SFL classes were to consider the importance of classroom observation for the development of our CPD, to see the contextual differences from one class to the next, to reflect upon the teacher's performance, to record a FL class using the VEO app, and to develop our CPD by the means of classroom observation.
With my fellow ProPIC participant Viktor from Sweden, I observed a class of the level A1 in their third week of learning. The main learning aims of the lesson were to talk about places to visit in Barcelona and to talk about future plans. The degree of motivation in the class was very low. There was only one girl actively and regularly participating. The others only participated after the teacher asked them something. It seemed as if the students had partied the night before and were only willing to relax.
Working with VEO was very complicated and Viktor and I were overwhelmed and overloaded by the many tasks we had since we had put the maximum of possessions into the timeline tool. Apart from that, we felt that we had too little time to prepare our observation since we had to figure out which functions the app had while observing. In addition, it would have been nice to have known the topic of the lesson before setting the tags because we hardly ever observed any use of digital tools in this class, which was one of our two tags. Nevertheless, I believe that VEO is a very useful observation tool once we have gained more practice in it.
