2024 Spring Show :

THE 2024 SPRING SHOW

 

Grove Village Hall, Saturday 13th April 2024. Open to the public at 2 pm.



Division A - VEGETABLES

 

Class

 

1. 4 Stems of 'Forced' Rhubarb (straight, firm stalks, uniform length, undeveloped leaves intact).

2. 4 Stems of 'Natural' Rhubarb (straight, tender stalks. Leaf blades trimmed back to 75mm).

3. 3 Leeks (washed and with roots untrimmed and teased out).

4. Brassica - 1 cauliflower or cabbage, or 3 stems of Sprouting Broccoli (Fresh florets with tight heads, 75-100mm of stalk).

Division B - FLOWERS

5.     1 small vase/jar of edible flowers, 3 stems, mixed or single variety, e.g. Nasturtium, Pansy.

6.     3 Vases of Garden flowers - 3 distinct kinds of flowers with 3 blooms or stems in each vase.

7.     1 Vase of 3 stems of single-headed Daffodils - any variety except multi-headed.

8.     1 Vase of 3 stems of double-headed Daffodils - any size.

9.     1 Vase of 3 stems of Wallflowers.

10.   1 Vase of 5 stems of Tulips, mixed.

11.   1 Vase of 5 stems of Tulips, one variety.

12.   1 clear Vase of not more than 6 stems of Flowering Shrubs or Trees - one or more varieties.

13.   A container of cut flowers not listed in the schedule.


Division C - POT PLANTS

Class

14.   One potted Polyanthus or Auricula.

15.   A Pot Plant, Floral.

16.   A Pot Plant, Foliage.

17.   one outdoor container planted up to look good from the front - 36cm (14 inches) diameter or square.

18.   A Bowl or Pot of Bulbs – indoor or out.

19.   A Pot Plant – Succulent or Cacti.


Division D - FLORAL ARRANGEMENT

Class

20.    A Spring Wreath - wreath may be made of any material (oasis, willow, copper ring etc), up to 30cm diameter (8'' to 10''). Accessories can be used.


Division E - BAKING & PRESERVES

Class

21.   1 Quiche (own recipe).

22.   A Lemon Drizzle Cake. (See recipe in schedule).

23.   5 Sweet Scones (own recipe).

24.   Victoria Sponge. (own recipe).

25.   5 Easter Biscuits (see recipe in schedule).

26.   A Fruit Cake, Approx 18cm or 7” diameter. (See recipe in schedule).

27.   A Pot of Jam.

28.   A Pot of Chutney with screw lid, at least 8 weeks old.

 

Division F - PHOTOGRAPHY

(NB. Print sizes must be no larger than 15cm x 20cm (6” x 8”)

29.  The Beauty of Foliage.

30.  A Woodland Scene.

31.  Historic and Modern.

32.  An Everyday Object form an unusual angle.

     

Division G - CRAFTS

Class

33.   A Crochet Item.

34.   A Hand Crafted article made from Wood, e.g. carving, turning, pyrography.

 

Division H -CHILDREN’S CLASSES


Class

35.   3 Cornflake cakes - (own recipe),  (state entrant’s age).

36.   A Collage made from plants - e.g. seedheads, bark, flowers, (state entrant’s age).



SPECIAL NOTES FOR THE SPRING SHOW

 

1. All Daffodils and Narcissi are classed as one kind of flower.

2. Please ensure that all baking is covered with cling film.

3. Awarding of trophies at the show will be around 3.30pm.


HOW TO ENTER THE SPRING SHOW

 

1. Print out and complete the entry form on this website, or the paper version available from Wantage Library, Grove Library or The Vale and Downland Museum.

 

2. Entry forms must be with Debbie Watson by 9.30 pm on the Monday night before the Show. (8th April).

Note: Late entries are dealt with entirely at the Show Secretary’s discretion.

 

3. The Hall will be open at 8.00 am but you must leave by 10.30 am when the show judges arrive – so make sure you leave yourself enough time for setting up.
