Spanish Work Week 2

Friday, March 20, 2020

Hola Familias,

I hope you are adjusting well to home learning. In the letter I sent home Monday, March 16th, I listed some links for more Spanish learning as we teachers figure out ways to reach our students without overwhelming families. I have found another resource (attached in this packet) called Summer Spanish for Kids, but perfect for any time off at home like now. There are suggested apps, books, websites, youtube channels and other educational resources for you to access! Please enjoy them at your leisure.

I am providing written packets to the younger grades to work on their basics such as colors and reviewing words they have been learning all year. The writing portion this week is about clothing and all the children should be familiar with the vocabulary. There is also a color by number page in which I translated the Spanish color words into English.

The last activity is the suitcase picture. The students can draw clothing on the picture that they would pack into a suitcase to go to Spain. As they draw, I would love for them to say aloud some of the Spanish words they have learned in class:

Shoes - Los Zapatos

Pants - Los Pantalones

Socks - Los Calcetines

Shirt - La Camisa

Hat - La Gorra or El Sombrero

Dress - El Vestido

Skirt - La Falda

Sweatshirt - La Sudadera

Jeans - Los Jeans

Parasol - Parasol

Umbrella - Paraguas

Boots - Los Botas

Coat - El Abrigo

Jacket - La Chaqueta

**Students in 2nd + 3rd grades, please label your suitcase drawings with the correct Spanish words from above.

My greatest request to families is to please encourage your children in daily life to speak in Spanish as much as they can. They know many terms for greetings, colors, numbers to 20 (older grades can count way beyond that), clothing, weather and songs in Spanish.

I miss them so much, and it has only been a week.

Sending Health and Hugs,

Señora Jessica

Music Work Week 2

Dear Parents, I’d like your children to continue watching Laurie Berkner’s participatory music video, this week starting at “28:32” (twenty-eight minutes and thirty-two seconds), right AFTER the “Bubbles” song, and going to the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUdUyTD6_So

Please remind your children to sing and dance along with the kids in the videos, and to follow all of Laurie Berkner’s fingerplays and gestures, just as they would with me in music class! Thank you so much!

Warmest wishes, Julia Slone, the music teacher
