The sound of music has evolved over time as civilization has evolved, therefore the evolution of music is truly a reflection of our cultural progress. In the beginning, humans created music that nearly matched the tones and repetitions of the noises they heard in nature. More musical instruments were developed and played in concert over time, resulting in more intricate and complex sounds. With the shift in civilizations, so did the beats, rhythms, tempo, and lyrics of songs.
Music is one of the most ever-changing industries. Over the years, there has been a major drift in the style of preferred music, instruments and even with the introduction of new categories with the advancement of technology. We are trying to understand and visualize the change of music over the years from 1921 to 2021 through this project. We also aim to visualize the evolution of music through the Spotify API, Billboard, RIAA, and a few other datasets. It has features/predictors like instrumentalness, acousticness, tempo, valence, etc. The trends in music, artists, genres have evolved and transitioned over these years and we hope to capture them through our analysis and visualization.
