The hydro dam is a large part of our power grid simulation.Β
This page describes how it works and what it does in easy-to-understand terms.
On the top is the indicator, at the bottom is the generation bar. right now, you can see the dam is at full capacity, and the red light shows its draining. The generation bar shows turbine 1 is turned to level 3 and turbine 2 is at level 1.
System Components:
The indicator (Little glowing light stick that stands upright at the top of the dam), which shows the water level. the higher up the lights are, the higher the water level.
The generation bar (The strip of LED's under the indicator) shows how high the turbines in the dam are running.
How it Works in Real-Life:
(this is put VERY simply, a dam has many more cool components, so be sure to check out how they work because it's super interesting!)
β The dam stores up water (In the simulator, our indicator shows this.)
β Turbine blades then get pushed by the water, begin to spin and thus creating electricity!
Fun fact:
β The overflow (looks like a ramp going from the top of the dam to the canal/river) allows dam operators to safely bring water levels down without causing a flood.
