Diversity

Statement from Erin Grey

I strongly believe that diversity is a strength and will strive to make our lab an inclusive and equitable environment for everyone. As lab supervisor, I'll work to ensure that the lab a welcoming and empowering experience for all students, and that our research accessible and meaningful for the wider community.

A couple of notes about lab expectations/etiquette:

    • Debate and disagreement based on fact is welcomed! However, comments that are or could easily be interpreted as disparaging to one or more groups of people defined by their race, religion, gender, sexuality, etc. are not.

    • Everyone has complicated lives and schedules that we need to respect. It's ok to email someone in the middle of the night or on weekends, but don't expect a quick response. Be respectful of other peoples time constraints.

    • On the flip side, please aim to respond to people within 24 hours (not including weekends) and to hit deadlines, etc.

    • Lab policies are in place to prevent bodily harm, contamination, and resource waste. Please follow all lab rules (which are posted in Hitchner 294), and do NOT hesitate to ask questions or ask for clarification.

    • ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS IN THE LAB - it is more important to learn then to "appear" knowledgeable.

    • Please don't hesitate to suggest improvements to policies and protocols. Positive change is a good thing!
