The Dragons competed at the Wahoo Invitational this weekend, scoring 80.5 team points and finishing 7th out of 15 teams. It was a challenging tournament overall — one that tested depth and consistency — but also provided important moments of progress and learning for a young Gretna lineup.
While the weekend didn’t unfold exactly as hoped, the Dragons continued to show fight, picked up key bonus points, and left Wahoo with two medalists and several wrestlers gaining valuable varsity experience.
113 – Gage Rupiper (2nd Place, 18 Team Points)
Freshman Gage Rupiper put together one of his best tournament of the season, earning second place for the second time this year. Rupiper reached the finals with three pins, showing confidence on his feet and aggression in scrambles. He ultimately fell in the championship match, but his runner-up finish marked a big step forward and set the tone for the lighter weights.
120 – Jackson Grebe (4th Place, 20 Team Points)
Jackson Grebe continued his steady early-season production with a 4th-place finish, scoring 20 team points. Grebe battled through the consolation bracket with multiple pins and wrestled deep into the tournament. His ability to rebound after setbacks continues to be a strength.
Several Dragons battled back to score important points:
132 – Bryce Lawler
Lawler responded well after an early loss, earning a pin, a tech fall, and a fall in the 5th-place match.
138 – Adam Eusterwiemann
Eusterwiemann showed grit in the wrestlebacks, closing his tournament with two wins to finish.
157 – Parker Petrigash
Petrigash bounced back after a tough opening round, earning bonus points and finishing strong.
215 – Braxton Bruggeman
Bruggeman continued to hunt pins, picking up two falls and showing continued growth in varsity action.
144 – Grant Stangl
Grant Stangl stepped up from JV to make his varsity debut at Wahoo. While the results didn’t fall his way, the experience gained competing at the varsity level will pay dividends moving forward.
Wahoo was not an easy draw, and the Dragons faced multiple ranked and experienced wrestlers throughout the day. While consistency remains an area to improve, the effort level stayed high, and the team continued to wrestle aggressively and look for bonus points.
