Frequently Asked Questions about Joining our Team:

Q: Does my child need to know how to swim?

A: Children do not need to be proficient swimmers to join swim team. We will help your child learn the strokes at their pace. We also have a "tadpole" program for non-swimmers. These swimmers will work in a small group with their own coach in the shallow end of the pool (mornings only!). Once they are able to swim the length of the pool tadpoles can compete in meets if they are comfortable. Tadpoles are only able to attend the morning practices.

Q: When are practices?

A: Practices start May 28. (The day after Labor Day) From May 28 until school gets out practices will be held in the evenings only. Beginning June 3, practices will be held in the morning and evening and you can pick the time most convenient to you.

Q: What if I can’t attend every practice?

A: You do not need to attend every practice!! Practices are very flexible with morning and evening options. You can come as much or as little as works for your family. Just remember the more your swimmers practice the more progress they will make.

Q: When are swim meets?

A: Swim meets are on Tuesday evenings. There will be 6 meets, 2 at home and 4 away. Please check the schedule section for dates/times.

Q: What if my child does not want to compete in meets?

A: No problem! Unlike some other teams, we don’t have to have a certain number of swimmers to participate in a meet. Your child is welcome to swim in meets as they feel comfortable, just come and watch or not come at all. We understand that summers are busy and you may have vacations or other commitments, that is no problem. Just come when you are able.

Q: Are there parent volunteer requirements?

A: It takes A LOT of people to run a swim meet. We do ask that at least one person from each household volunteer at each swim meet especially for home meets. You can absolutely volunteer more if you are available! Volunteer positions are super easy, we will show you everything you need to know and they are actually a lot of fun! We will send out a sign up genius prior to each meet for volunteers.

Q: Do I have to be a member of Loch Braemar pool?

A: No, you do not have to be a pool member to participate in swim team only. There is an additional fee for non-members.

Q: Do I need to purchase a team suit?

A: We have recommended black and green team suits available for purchase through Midlothian Swim Shop. They will be at our meeting on May 28th for sizing.
