Assistive Technology for the Blind and Low Vision

Shopping Assistance

For my Master's Thesis, I developed an app to assist people who are blind or have low vision with grocery store shopping. The app was designed based on survey responses from people who are blind or have low vision. The Android app used ARCORE, a YOLO object detector, OCR, A* path planning, and a firebase database. It could read the names of products on the shelves which were then added to a dynamically updated map. Unfortunately, we were unable to evaluate this app with users due to recruiting difficulties during the pandemic.
