WHO I'VE INFORMED

TAEKWONDO INSTRUCTING

I began volunteering as a Taekwondo instructor in 7th grade and continued for four years. I worked with students ages 4 through 16 of all different skill levels. Teaching Taekwondo proved to be harder than learning it, and I developed new skills in collaboration, organization, and leadership. Sometimes I would have to lead a class of 25 kids by myself! My volunteer work at Sky Martial Arts earned me a silver Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2022 for 75 hours at age 15, and a bronze one for 100 hours at age 16. In total, I volunteered for more than 200 hours.

HOSA PARLIAMENTARIAN

In my sophomore year, I ran for a board position in my school's chapter of HOSA-Future Health professionals. It was a public campaign for a large club of more than 300 members, and I was running against more than 25 other candidates! I ended up winning a position on the executive board, and chose to become parliamentarian. Aside from the regular duties regarding parliamentary procedure, I also am in charge of a branding team that runs the HOSA website, newsletter, social media, and poster/flyer campaigns. Leading this team and communicating between them and the rest of the executive board has taught me new leadership skills.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

In my sophomore year, I became creative director and social media manager for my friend's service club, Redress and Reboot. The experience was so much fun that I decided to apply to be social media manager for my school's newspaper, The Dublin Shield. I got the position, and was so excited to be in charge of one of the school's largest social media pages, and many students' main news source.

VIA HEART PROJECT

In sophomore year, I volunteered for the Via Heart Project, which came to my school to perform preemptive testing of students' hearts to detect signs of heart defects, disorders, and disease and prevent heart attacks. As a volunteer, I taught CPR skills to more than 100 students as they were waiting in line to get their hearts tested. I also helped set up the booths.

DUBMED MAGAZINE

In my freshman year, I became a staff writer for the DubMed Magazine, a new magazine that focuses on medical issues. I wrote my first article on lead exposure and its affect on my brain, which was published in the magazine's first edition.
