Greenwood Development Corporation is the community development arm of Greenwood AME Church
Our mission is to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through education, outreach, development, and support services. Founded in Tennessee in 2001, GDC was established to serve the community through charitable and educational programs that promote self-sufficiency, well-being, and neighborhood revitalization
Greenwood Development Corporation (GDC) supports the community through youth development, educational assistance, wellness support, job readiness, recovery resources, economic outreach, and affordable housing initiatives. Our goal is to provide practical pathways for growth, stability, and long-term community transformation.
CARE
We are launching compassionate, high-quality care services including daycare, after-school programs, and support for individuals with disabilities. Our goal is to create safe, nurturing environments that promote growth, stability, and well-being.
HEALTH
We are building preventive health services along with substance abuse intervention, recovery, and rehabilitation programs. Our work focuses on strengthening individuals physically, mentally, and emotionally for healthier lives.
EDUCATION
We are working toward offering tutorial assistance, life skills training, and communication and technology development to equip youth and adults for success. Our programs build knowledge, confidence, and practical skills for lifelong learning.
WELLNESS
We address the physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of individuals across all life stages. Our holistic approach supports healing, stability, and personal growth.
ENGAGEMENT
We involve community members through town halls and advisory processes to shape housing and development initiatives. This ensures that the voices of low-income residents guide our work.
YOUTH
We empower disadvantaged youth and young adults through mentorship, teen pregnancy prevention, and self-development programs. We help young people discover purpose, build self-esteem, and pursue positive life paths.
WORKFORCE
We are building capacity to provide employment counseling, job training, and career development opportunities. Our focus is on preparing individuals to secure, maintain, and grow in meaningful employment.
COMMUNITY
We aim to lead economic outreach and self-help initiatives that strengthen families and neighborhoods. Through local engagement, we promote collective growth and sustainable community development.
HOUSING
We are planning to develop, manage, and construct safe, decent, and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents. Our housing efforts support community revitalization across Shelby, Tipton, Dyer, and Haywood counties.
