Figure out what you can extinguish the fire with. For buildings, this is always water. Next, figure out what department you need to call based on what you can see at the moment. This includes DOT, LE, EMS, SIU, and backup FD.
Prevent areas that could catch on fire to do so by spraying them down. This controls the fire.
Grab a chainsaw and get on the roof. Cut a hole in it where it is structurally safe to do so. This allows smoke to escape and prepares you for the next step.
Now that the inside of the building is visible, you need to go in to see if anyone is still inside. If so, bring them out and immediately give them an oxygen mask and call EMS for further assistance.
Extinguishing a fire requires you to go wall-by-wall in a clockwise direction. We call these sides Side Alpha (A), Side Bravo (B), Side Charlie C), and Side Delta (D). You need to extinguish from bottom to top as heat rises.
Once done with the exterior, do the same with the interior, going room by room to ensure there is no fire left. Once deemed safe, proceed to the next step.
Any debris from the fire needs to be cleared— this includes anything that would but bystanders in harm’s way (glass, nails, planks, etc.)
Show GVFD spirit by offering to help in any way possible to the other departments.
Once the scene is over, you need to clear the scene, making the location ready for further RPs.
Once done, return to the station, and celebrate the end of a call with a donut in the dining hall.
