High School Jazz
High School Jazz
The GCHS Jazz Band is comprised of students in grades 9-12 enrolled in curricular concert band. Many of the members learn secondary instruments to perform and compete in the jazz band. Jazz band provides students with opportunities to improvise, perform genres such as Latin, Funk, and Rock, and students may get to travel to jazz festivals throughout the state of Indiana.

The GJHS Jazz Band is comprised of students in grades 7-8 enrolled in curricular concert band. Many of the members learn secondary instruments to perform and compete in this extracurricular ensemble. Jazz band provides students with opportunities to improvise and perform genres such as Latin, Funk, and Rock.
Jazz Band Instrumentation
The typical instrumentation for a jazz band is as follows. However, any instrument can perform in jazz band! Just talk to a director if you are interested.
Saxophones - Alto, Tenor, or Bari (great for Flute or Clarinet players)
Trumpets
Trombones (great for Euphonium or Tuba players)
Drums Set & Auxiliary Percussion (it helps if Percussion is your primary instrument)
Guitar & Bass Guitar (it helps to have prior experience on these instruments)
Piano (it helps to have prior experience)
