Hello! We’re Larry & Iva, a nature-loving couple currently enjoying the island life in Saipan! We’re green bloggers who love to explore nature, participate in eco-events, and volunteer for the environment!
is an Environmental Scientist and an avid birder with years of experience in forest and stream ecology, restoration, and monitoring. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Asia (Watershed Management and Rehabilitation Project in Marikina City, Philippines) and Africa (Ikelenge, Zambia). He also holds a Permaculture Design Certificate and work full-time at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in San Francisco, California.
is a Communications Specialist, currently an environment writer for Saipan Tribune, and a correspondent for Marianas Business Journal. Before their big move to Saipan, she did outreach and graphic design in San Francisco, California, as well as in her home country, the Philippines, where she spent over-a-decade of her life doing environmental work. Iva loves cats, taking nature photos, and spending time with people she loves.
We love birds! If you're interested in learning about birds, or in just simply admiring birds, we can help you. We have facilitated and assisted in birdwatching tours, and have also helped in annual bird counts. We can be your bird guide.
We help introduce ways of interacting with your environment through permaculture. We can collaborate, discuss, and explore systems for future projects. We worked with volunteers on the Parkway Cascade Garden in Oakland, California for five years, where we transformed a former dump into an urban cascade garden.
We layout and design information materials for the environment. Our projects include collateral for the Cities and Clean Air Project of Clean Air Asia, the Environment Management Bureau, and some posters for the Earth Day Jam Foundation. View our work here.

Greenphils is a privately-owned blog. Here, we chronicle our travels, projects, and random experiences. We took all the photos you see here, unless otherwise stated. Also, while we work for, or have been connected with environmental organizations, our blog is not associated with any of them. We, however, try to help everyone out by collaborating with people in the environment sector. We are also open to media-partnership.
We're redesigning our blog. We're moving away from Wordpress, and are migrating articles from our old blog to this one. Sadly, we would not be able to move all the comments we got from you through the years, but we will do our best to copy as much as we can. Please enjoy what we have so far, and just check back for updates. Thank you so much!
