After starting up the Robotics Club in 2020 we had a total of seven members. Two eighth graders and five seventh graders. With little to no experience, we started our season with a goal to just have a functioning robot by the time competitions started. With big dreams and little time to do it we started work on our robot Tobor the Viking.
In 2022, we entered our first competition at Phillips Exeter and we ended up making it to the finals with our alliance partner Torque. Next, we went to another qualifier at Alborn High School where we again made it to the finals but lost to another team. As we ended both of our qualifiers we felt good with our progress and we learned that we would be able to compete in the state competition. When we arrived at the state competition we knew we were major underdogs being one of the smallest teams and one of the youngest. We finished the competition in seventh place which was well above our initial expectations.
We ended our 2023 season by attending a “just for fun” competition where we showed off Tobor one last time. Fast forward to now, we have split into two teams, “Hilda The Builda” and “Tobor The Viking.”
The 2023-2024 both robots entered the state competition. We divided new members and returning evenly, into two new teams. Tobor placed in 12th and received the Motive Award by the judges.
With both of the Greenland Teams finding success, we are very excited for what’s to come for the 2024-2025 season!
