We are Greenland Central School (GCS) Robotics Team. The team was started in 2020 by Mr. Randy Weld, the STEM teacher at GCS, and Mr. Henri Salaun. Their goal was to bring the FIRST TECH CHALLENGE Robotics Program to the school. This program provided opportunities to learn and practice mechanical, programming, marketing, communication and business skills. In 2023, there was an increase in student interest so the Robotics Team expanded to have two Teams compete in in the First Tech Challenge (FTC). The two teams are named Hilda the Builda and Tobor the Viking.
Our Middle school team competes against other middle school and high school teams in the state. We also have a chance to compete against eachother for getting into states or even regionals. However we do not take this personally. We look at it like a 2nd chance rather than a one team clashing against the other. We have accomplished so many things since the start of our team such as placing 7th in the state in 2022, placing 12th and 8th in 2023, and winning multiple awards. In 2025, Hilda won the control award which pushed Hilda up to states. In the second competition, Hilda was granted the control award and Tobor was granted the 2nd place Inspire award pushing them up to states after another team dropped out! After the following states competition, Tobor The Viking made it to regionals. In the next month, we will be going to compete against the highest ranked teams in the region to compete for a place on the podium.
The Connect Award recognizes teams that demonstrate strong connections with their local Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) community, highlighting their efforts to build relationships and engage with the broader STEM community.
The 2nd place Inspire Award recognizes a team that embodies the spirit of the competition through strong team building, team spirit, and displayed enthusiasm, while also serving as a role model for others and promoting FIRST within their school and community.
