Projection of Canopy Cover: Summer Research Students who worked on this project created a shade canopy projection using GIS technology. They used the specific latitude and longitude for trees planted, rate of growth for each species planted, and the size of canopy to show how much trees would grow in 25 years!
Maps of various planting projects by Green Crew!
ReLeaf 1.0: In 2017, Sustainable Claremont received a grant through California ReLeaf named Planting with a Purpose. With this grant, we have planted over 125 trees in the area displayed in the map below. This project aimed to increase the tree canopy and shade in the area of focus as well as improve the air quality next to the freeway. With the help of grants from the CBO project and the Kiwanis, we have been able to successfully complete this goal!
CIRCLE 2.0: In 2018, West Coast Arborists approached Green Crew with an opportunity to plant 165 trees in the City of Claremont. These trees were planted around the Arbor Day Celebration on March 10th and are being monitored by an ongoing program, California Initiative to Reduce Carbon and Limit Emissions (CIRCLE).
Solis Grant: The City of Claremont received a grant from Supervisor Solis' office. This grant has kept us busy planting 1300 trees in a span of three years! Here are the trees planted thus far - 970 to go!
CalFire: The City of Claremont received a CalFire grant. This grant requires us to plant 400 trees in the span of three years! We only have 151 remaining to plant in the next two years!
Total Trees Planted: With the help of Green Crews' "We Love Trees" Walk the Town educational canvassing program and our volunteer tree planting program, we have helped plant all the trees displayed below - that's over 800 trees since 2016!
Trees are unique - they outlive humans for generations and continuously provide benefits to nearby inhabitants. Although trees have the ability to provide countless benefits to human lives, they are also prone to pests and drought when water is scarce. Due to drought, pests, & disease, 16,000 of our 24,000 City trees are threatened!
Although we are continuously trying to repopulate our trees, we need to also keep them watered so they can grow! The efforts we put in with watering and proper tree care today, will give benefits for the generations to come!
