Educator
We want the best education for our students, so we want our educators to have proof of knowledge and skill. A Washington state teaching certificate is required, plus health certificate and others required by the State to work with children. A Bachelor's degree in elementary education or a related field is preferred. Some teaching policies, like art and music teacher or physical education teacher, do not require a degree.
Administration
To showcase their competency, administration and counsellors will preferably have a Bachelor's or Master's in a related field. Previous experience with children, teaching, and schools is also preferred. They are required to have an up to date teaching certificate given by the state of Washington, and all certificates required by the state to work with children.
We love welcoming new educators into Green Valley as long as they have met previous requirements. Positions like art and music teacher, physical education teacher, and teacher aids, are more likely to be hired without previous degrees or experience than other educator positions. Maintenance jobs, such as custodians, lunch aids, and recess aids, do not need previous experience or education to join our team.
First year teachers typically start around an annual income of $65,000. Traditionally, we raise a teacher's salary by about 3% every year. There are many other opportunities for teachers to increase their income while here at Green Valley, such as taking on extra duties like coaching or tutoring, completing district provided courses, or pursuing a higher educational degree. Any of these courses of action can be discussed and negotiated with the principal and other administration.
Administrative roles are usually around $80,000 with variations for specific roles such as principal, counsellor, board of directors, etc. These salaries also increase yearly, but require more education and certification.
Green Valley Elementary School strives to be a place of unity and compassion. Administration, educators, and parents will work together, compromise, and support one another to provide the best care for our students. Our administration and teachers maintain healthy relationships with parents through parent-teacher-conferences, performances and viewings, and contact through school approved platforms like Remind and ParentSquare. Administration and teachers will work together to help students both as classes and as individuals. Teachers will take time to work together to improve their own classes and curriculum.
