Welcome to the Green Music Program. This is a project I have launched for multiple reasons. First, as an environmental professional by day and musician by night/weekend, I have come to realize over the years that there is a synergy between these two worlds. The environmental challenges we face as a collective require not just practical policy solutions but also bold and inspiring messages, stories, and art to propel us forward. People need to feel the gravity of the destruction of our planet in order to truly change. Musicians have a unique ability to move people - and that is why we should be on the front lines of galvanizing action and setting an example of protecting our planet and future generations. Second, the music industry has significant environmental impacts. From the tour buses to the vinyl to the energy it takes to provide streaming services, the music industry leaves its mark on our environment. There is a lot we can be doing to not only reduce these impacts but also to engage in projects that contribute to healing our world. Third, we are living in a time of unprecedented funding and support for environmental action. Funding for clean energy, restoration, and reducing waste has never been close to the scale we now see today, and there is immense financial support from federal, state, and local entities, particularly through the Inflation Reduction Act. And finally, fourth, while some musicians may care deeply about the planet, they often lack the financial resources, time, or knowledge to take bold action. For all of these reasons, I have established the Green Music Program to support musicians and the music industry in taking on sustainability projects. Thank you for being here for the journey.
