Readability
This word is known to be used in aviation, as a term for how well ATC personnel can hear you, as well as other pilots. Every pilot should always check in with the ATC, by calling out they’re callsign and afterwards radio check. 1/5 being the worst 5/5 being the best.
VFR & IFR
Both of these methods are the aircrafts settings. IFR (instrumental flight rules) are controlled by the ATC, such as your height, squawk, heading, etc. VFR (visual flight rules) are controlled by the pilot, the ATC only gives it a squawk and a height limit.
Frequency Change
As your career progresses through HAF, there will be airfields with more then 1 ATC frequency. Sounds for example has 3, Ground, Tower, Approach. Ground is responsible for everything on the ground, except for the runway. Tower is for the runway only, it doesn’t give clearance to approach, it only takes aircraft on final or aircraft that are about to depart. AFterwards giving it to approach. Approach takes care of managing the airspace, giving clearances to approach and headings to departing aircraft. When an aircraft is on final, it hands over the aircraft to tower.
Heading
This information is only given on IFR, the ATC personnel may tell you to turn left, heading 190 degrees, no argument, straight forward.
