My Philosophy as a Teacher
After 18 years in elementary education, I have learned that teaching is about much more than academics. It is about helping children recognize their strengths, develop confidence, and discover that they are capable of more than they may initially believe. I believe the best learning happens when students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and embracing challenges. My goal is to create a classroom where students are encouraged to think deeply, support one another, and approach learning with curiosity and perseverance. While every child’s journey will look different, I want each student to leave fourth grade with new skills, stronger confidence, and the understanding that their voice and contributions matter.
A Little About Me
This year marks my 19th year in elementary education and my return to the classroom after seven years away. During that time, I had the opportunity to explore several different paths, including writing human-interest stories and marketing content, becoming a certified personal trainer, and starting a small business creating healthy homemade dog treats. Each experience helped me grow as a person and professional while reinforcing the importance of creativity, connection, and lifelong learning. Throughout my education career, I have taught eight years in fifth grade, six years in third grade, one year in kindergarten, two years as a targeted intervention teacher, and one year as a reading specialist. My first 17 years in education were in California, and my 18th year was here in Colorado. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, an associate degree in Journalism, an elementary education teaching credential, and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
A few things about me:
✓ I love exploring Colorado’s beautiful trails through hiking and biking.
✓ I enjoy gardening and spending time outdoors.
✓ I have a bit of a plant problem… meaning I may have more houseplants than I actually need (although I would argue that there is always room for one more!).
✓ I have a bit of a sugar problem… I love sweets and have a hard time saying no to a good treat.
✓ I am happiest with a good book and a quiet morning cup of chai tea.
✓ I am a proud mom of two amazing sons.
I feel incredibly grateful to return to the classroom and look forward to getting to know your children, celebrating their growth, and being part of their fourth-grade journey.
