This is an ongoing personal project I am working on.
The goal intended for this project was to create an electric skateboard using my original skateboard and adding on any other necessary components so that I would be able to travel with ease around BU.
I had purchased the longboard for the purpose of transportation during my freshman year, since I lived in a campus dorm about .8 to 1 miles away from my classes. I had never used a longboard before my freshman year, but thought that a bicycle is too bulky to fit into my double dorm room and that riding any other vehicle would not look as good as riding a longboard.
After my freshman year I had moved into a dorm that was much closer to my classes, but I still used the longboard because now the gym that was previously .1 miles away from me was now located .8 miles away from my dorm room!
After getting tired of having to wait on the buses and trains (which were unreliable at times), I decided that I wanted to create my own means of transport and thought that this would be the best way to go about it.
First, I looked up youtube videos on how to go about making your own longboard. From the majority of them, I saw that every board needed:
A battery and a casing
A motor and motor mount
A motor pulley and a wheel pulley
A electric speed controller
A remote
A charger
4 types of wheels that are compatible with
For the motor, I decided to purchase a 6374 motor which operates off of up to 85 amps and up to 42 Volts. In the photo, you can see the motor pulley already attached to the motor.
