Rebekah Gray, Ph.D

Rebekah joined the faculty at Goucher College in fall 2023. She obtained a B.S. in chemistry and biology at Carlow University in 2015 and her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Ohio State University in 2021. Her graduate work focused on the development of carbon-based materials for separation science and assessing the environmental friendliness of carbon dioxide-containing solvent systems for chromatographic analysis. As a postdoctoral scholar at the College of Wooster, Rebekah expanded her research interests to include contaminant transport and fate throughout the environment. The Gray Lab at Goucher College now focuses on the transport of contaminants in terrestrial environments, particularly in multi-contaminant systems.

In her spare time, Rebekah enjoys reading, crochet, and traveling to national parks.

Current Students

Martin Mbonye (BCMB '29) - Martin joined the Gray Lab in Summer 2026. Martin is working to understand the transport behavior of perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids in microplastic-contamined soil.

Madison Spiers (BCMB '27) - Madison first conducted research in the Gray Lab during Summer 2025. After studying abroad in Spain, they returned to the lab in Spring 2026 and continued into Summer 2026. Madison's projects have focused on examining the transport behavior of perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids in microplastic-contaminated soil.

Eden Rovner (CHEM '27) - Eden has conducted research in the Gray Lab in both Summer 2025 and Summer 2026. Eden's projects have focused on methods to artificial age various types of microplastics.

Mariam Abdelrady (BCMB '27) - Mariam has done research in the Gray Lab from Summer 2024 to Summer 2025 and is back again in Summer 2026! Her project focuses on solid-phase extraction (SPE) method development for environmental samples.
