Mission Statement
As an American Sign Language interpreter, I am devoted to promoting meaningful connections between individuals by opening the door to clear and effective communication. I recognize the value of relationships and the consistent effort required to make and keep those connections.
My goal is to make sure that all ideas, thoughts, feelings, and opinions, especially those of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, are heard and understood. In every single interaction, I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and safe.
Advocacy is at the core of my mission. I believe in standing up for those who may feel disregarded, excluded, or unable to speak for themselves. By being mindful and compassionate, I work to guarantee that no one is left behind or silenced.
I am committed to promoting inclusivity and equality to all, and I seek to be a voice for the underrepresented/minority in all situations, helping to create spaces where everyone feels safe, connected, and empowered.
I hold nobility, integrity, and kindness as essential values in my everyday work. My work is built on trust, and I intend to bring empathy and clarity to every experience.

Short Term
Processing Time
Specific:
During my K–12 internship, I will increase my processing time when interpreting from ASL into English—especially during student responses, classroom discussions, and teacher explanations—by waiting 3–5 seconds before voicing.
Measurable:
I will record short practice clips using age-appropriate classroom materials on youtube,(morning announcements, read-alouds, lesson explanations) to see whether I consistently give myself the 3–5 seconds before beginning to interpret into English.
Attainable:
This is attainable because I will have frequent opportunities in the K–12 environment to observe, practice, and reflect on my timing. I will use downtime or structured practice moments in my internship to rehearse this skill.
Relevant:
Processing time is especially important in K–12 settings where student messages may be less predictable and teachers may give rapid instructions. More processing time leads to clearer, more accurate English interpretations.
Timely:
I will focus on this goal for the first block of my internship and then evaluate my consistency with my mentor interpreter.
Short Term
Gain Confidence and sharpen skills
Specific:
During my K–12 internship, I will build confidence and increase the sharpness and clarity of my ASL production by practicing English-to-ASL interpretations using classroom materials such as read-alouds, vocabulary lessons, and teacher instructions.
Measurable:
I will record short English→ASL practice clips and review them to assess whether my signs are clear, sharp, and confident—focusing on handshape accuracy, pacing, and transitions.
Attainable:
This goal is attainable because I will encounter a wide range of academic content daily. I will also ask my mentor for targeted feedback on clarity and confidence during brief practice sessions.
Relevant:
Strong, sharp, confident ASL production is essential in K–12 settings where students rely on precise signing to understand academic content and classroom routines.
Timely:
I will focus on this goal for the first block of my internship and reassess my growth with mentor guidance.

Get my certification as an EIPA interpreter and Novice interpreter.
Find a good school district to work in.
