Kala has had many names, one of the most notable being “Time and Death Incarnate” or sometimes “The Herald to Worlds”. Across the ages he has been cited as a god, at other times simply a spirit that roams the cosmos. Others would scarcely believe in the existence of Kala at all. Perhaps it’s near impossible for any human to know much of him to begin with, being that the stories tell of a being whose body is composed of pure ultraviolet light, so bright and so hot that most any earthbound lifeform anywhere near him would burn away or suffer horrific injury from intense radiation. His presence is said to signal the end of the world, or the birth of a new one.
Some stories of Kala tell his destiny in searching every age for a being called his “consort”, and that each time they are united they drive back a great darkness that threatens to devour the universe. An exaggeration perhaps, or an embellished fantasy story. Whatever the case, there have been a small number of sightings of a man with golden eyes, head aflame, and body aglow with a beautiful light.
Amir Tatakera once sang a song of Kala to his lover that described him as thus.
The sun demon Ciro was once overheard reciting an old story told amongst demons:
“Look, see the Herald to Worlds,
Of time and of death,
Come to burn the world away,
And for that which elude the both
Fear only when he sleeps,
All is reborn and rebuilt for his waking
If none but a dream to most,
then travel across time and death
his consort surely go.”
